Interview with Jarett Orr, Podcast Host of Running it With Nate Sexton

In the past decade podcasting has become a phenomenon as a source of information. For myself I attribute podcasts to my understanding of personal financing, my knowledge of disc golf, and motivating me to do what I love.

At the end of 2020, a local disc golfer in WNY named Jarett Orr took it upon himself to start a podcast with the THE voice of disc golf in Nate “Sexy” Sexton. Their 7th episode just dropped this morning featuring no other than Jonathan Gomez, founder of a company that many of us disc golfers know as JomezPro. Other notable guests they’ve had on Running it With Nate Sexton include: Jeremy Koling; co-host on Jomez along with Nate Sexton, Paul Ulibarri, 5X World Champion Paul McBeth, and disc golf legend Nate Doss.

There are no other disc golf podcasts out there that really give you an insight into a professional disc golfers mindset and tour life quite like Running it With Nate Sexton. The chemistry between Jarett and Nate makes for great content with subtle joking and trash talk and the guests are just as playful.

I wanted to get to know Jarett a little more and he was generous enough to do a phone interview with me. Keep in mind the answers to my questions are paraphrased.

How did you get into disc golf?

My brother-in-law has been playing disc golf for a while and about 6 years ago he asked me if I wanted to play a round. I’m a competitive person and was hooked after the first time. Afterwards I got into watching disc golf on YouTube and thought I can throw as far as these guys! The drive to get better is what kept me coming back for more.

How long have you been podcasting for?

I’ve been podcasting professionally for 5 years now. I worked in podcast advertising in Oregon and figured the best way to sell advertising was to have my own podcast. I was a huge wrestling fan at the time and my first podcast was with a professional wrestler named Al Snow and the show was called “Inside Al Snow’s Head.” Eventually I moved to Las Vegas to start a podcast with MLB player Jose Canseco [“The Truth Hurts with Jose Canseco]. I saw a hole in disc golf podcasts lacking a professional disc golfer as a host. I thought it would be nice to get more of an insight into a pro disc golfers life which motivated me to start a disc golf podcast.

How did you and Nate Sexton connect?

Nate is clearly the unofficial voice of disc golf who has both phenomenal play and great insights. I was also familiar with him through Champs vs. Chumps living in Oregon and after watching his involvement with that production it was a no brainer. I reached out and Nate was hesitant at first but we ended up having a great chemistry and he agreed to do the podcast.

Why Nate Sexton over Paul Ulibarri?

Uli is great but with Nate being an Oregon guy like me it was just a natural fit. I felt Nate and I would have a good chemistry and Nate was already established as the voice of disc golf. I loved the joking and insights Nate had in Champs vs. Chumps and figured it would be a good fit.

What’s your favorite course to play in WNY?

I really really enjoy Bond Lake. I live about 5 minutes away from Como though and enjoy bringing my 2 older kids with me. Como has wide open play, is easy to walk around with the kids because it’s flat and is very convenient to play a round and head home afterwards.

I hope you enjoyed the interview and be sure to check out Running it With Nate Sexton on any podcasting platform out there including YouTube! New episodes have been dropping every week with the biggest names in disc golf!
